More than fifteen years ago, Boomer Esiason had the beginnings of an idea to help teach parents and kids about Cystic Fibrosis, which affected his young son, Gunnar. Boomer believed there should be a better way to address children with information on complex topics, and thought about creating a comic character to deliver the message in a way that kids would understand and even enjoy. That idea would eventually turn into GENIE THE GENIUS. In 2012, Esiason met comic creator Darren Sanchez and soon partnered with After Hours Press to help bring this idea to life.

The Genie Team was formed shortly thereafter as Boomer, Lee Becker and Darren Sanchez brought in Gunnar Esiason and Jerry Cahill to form GTG Productions. The creative team was assembled as writer and co-creator, Darren Sanchez writing brought in co-writer Emily Sanchez along with talented artists Matteo Stanzani, Massimo Asaro and colorist Chrysoula Artemis. With the team in place the comic series was soon underway.

The result of this team effort was an original three-issue story, created to tell the origin of our hero, Genie the Genius. Genie debuted at the biggest comic conventions in the US as #1 launched in Chicago at Wizardworld in 2013, with #2 & #3 following at SDCC and then NYCC. Kids loved it. And parents loved it just as much. Fans have been demanding a collected edition trade, so stay tuned for an announcement on that coming soon.

After the success of the initial launch, the Genie team now had the perfect character to deliver their educational message. So they turned their eyes toward the mission of Genie, which is educating and entertaining kids on medical conditions. The next story was, Genie the Gene #1, titled, “What is Cystic Fibrosis?” This digital comic, was a huge hit with readers and the CF community, and is available on This digital comic is part one of the story, and will soon be available in printed format as well and distributed in schools. Part 2 of the Cystic Fibrosis story is now in preproduction, and will be available digitally in the late summer of 2016.
